1. Experimental purpose:
Sedimentation is a common method used to remove impurities in water in water pollution control. Sedimentation can be divided into four basic types: free sedimentation, coagulation sedimentation, layered sedimentation, and compression sedimentation. Free sedimentation is used to remove low-concentration discrete particles such as gravel, iron filings, etc. The sedimentation performance of these impurity particles is generally determined by experiments.
This experiment uses the method of measuring the cumulative sediment volume at the bottom of the sedimentation column for different durations to find out the relationship between the removal rate and the sedimentation rate.
Through this experiment, we hope to achieve the following goals:
1. Preliminary understanding of the principle and basic experimental method of calculating the impurity removal rate using the cumulative sediment volume method;
2. Compare the common points between this method and the cumulative curve (or gravity depth analysis curve) method;
3. Deepen the understanding of the basic concept of sedimentation and the sedimentation law of impurities.
