1. Experimental purpose:
Ion exchange softening method is widely used in treatment engineering. The use of strong acid cation exchange resin is also very common. As a water treatment engineering technician, you should master the determination method of the exchange capacity (i.e., total exchange capacity) of this resin and understand the operation of the softening water device.
Through this experiment, we hope to achieve the following goals:
1. Familiar with the operation process of the downstream regeneration fixed bed;
2. Deepen the understanding of the basic theory of sodium ion exchange.
2. Experimental principle:
When water cont*ning calcium and magnesium salts passes through an exchanger equipped with cation exchange resin, the Ca2+ and Mg2+ ions in the water are exchanged with the exchangeable ions (Na+ or H+) in the resin, so that the Ca2+ and Mg2+ content in the water is reduced or basically completely removed. This process is called water softening. After the resin f*ls, it must be regenerated, that is, the calcium and magnesium ions adsorbed on the resin are replaced with new exchangeable ions. Sodium ion exchange resin is regenerated with salt (NaCI), and hydrogen ion exchange resin is regenerated with hydrochloric acid (HCI) or sulfuric acid (H2SO4).
