1. Experimental purpose:
After the water purification process of coagulation, sedimentation or clarification, filtration, etc., most of the suspended matter in the water has been removed, but there are still a cert*n number of microorganisms, including pathogens that are harmful to the human body, in the water. Disinfection methods are often used to kill these pathogenic microorganisms.
There are many methods for water disinfection, and the most commonly used method is chlorine disinfection. This experiment uses chlorine disinfection for water sources with bacteria and ammonia nitrogen in the water.
The following objectives are expected to be achieved through the experiment:
1. Understand the basic principles of chlorine disinfection;
2. Master the calculation method of chlorine addition and chlorine requirement;
3. Master the basic method of chlorine and ammonia disinfection.
2. Experimental principle:
After chlorine and bleaching powder are added to water, the following reaction occurs:
Cl2+H2O ⇌ HOCl+HCl (16-1)
2CaOCl2-2H2O ⇌ 2HOCl+Ca(OH)2+CaCl2 (16-2)
The m*n disinfectant is HOCl.
If there are no bacteria, ammonia, organic matter and reducing substances in the water, all the chlorine added to the water exists in the form of free chlorine, and the residual chlorine is equal to the amount of chlorine added.
Because there are organic matter and a considerable amount of ammonia nitrogen compounds in the water, their properties are very unstable and often undergo chemical reactions to gradually transform into ammonia. Ammonia is free or exists in the form of ammonia salts in the water.
After chlorination, the chlorine and ammonia generate "combined" chlorine, which also has a disinfecting effect. According to the ammonia content in the water, the pH value and the amount of chlorine added, the relationship between the amount of chlorine added and the residual chlorine will appear in four stages, that is, four intervals .
